Twitter archives: get to know your teenage self

The time has finally come–my Twitter archive is ready.  After downloading the file, I paused with my finger poised and ready to click on the link that I had been anxiously awaiting for months. I took a moment to think about what I was about to witness–a historical archive… of me!  After seeing the Twitterverse explode with users raving about their Twitter archives, I could hardly wait. Little did I know what was in store for me. Let’s take a journey down memory lane as we acquaint ourselves with 17-year-old Nicole.

Important takeaways from my Twitter archives (circa 2010)

  1. I really liked tweeting song lyrics. A lot.

    So profound.

  2. For someone who tweeted 75% song lyrics, I was pretty convinced that Twitter was useless.
  3. I thought auto-posting from Tumblr was a great idea. Spoiler: it wasn’t.
  4. You bet your bottom dollar I tweeted about food.

Why did I think that was even worth tweeting?
  5. I really had no filter at all. (Seriously, my mother should have washed my Twitter mouth out with soap.)

Thanks to Twitter releasing archives of users’ tweet histories, we can all feel the same bizarre mix of nostalgia, horror and amusement at the words of our past selves.
